The forecast for Randolph County has winds increasing this evening to 25-30mph, with gust between 35-40mph. Rain is expected to begin Friday. These conditions will last through the weekend. In total, we could see 4-7 inches of rainfall. As this time, we are not anticipating life-threatening conditions, but we are still planning for scattered trees down and power outages. The heaviest rain, thus the chance for flash flooding, could occur Saturday and Sunday.

Randolph County will open an safety shelter at the First Baptist Church in Asheboro (133 N Church St) which is across from Asheboro City Hall. The shelter will open at 8:00PM on 9/13/2018 for any resident that does not feel comfortable sheltering at home. If you decide to come to the emergency shelter, please bring the following items:
– Identification
– Any prescription medications that you must take
– Personal hygiene items
– Pillow and blanket
– Cards, games, entertainment
– Any special food and snacks you may want

At this time, daily meals will not be provided unless local food establishments close due to power outages.

Although pets will not be allowed to stay in the shelter with you, we can accommodate your dog or cat in a safe, nearby location. Please bring a crate, pet food, collar, leash, and proof of vaccine. You will be responsible for the walking and feeding of your animal.
